Ok, so you have a 40%, 50% or 60% efficient furnace and you want to be energy efficient, but on a budget.  Well, you are in luck.

It is all your perspective…the technology for the highest efficient furnaces is making those furnaces more expensive and the installation is more involved than what is considered a standard efficiency furnace.  The energy efficient units require additional drainage lines and the flue needs to be replaced.  This means that the high efficient furnace can be significantly more money to install and the return on your investment would take longer so the standard efficient furnace may make more sense.  This is even after the tax credits and rebates are taken into consideration.

So take that 40% efficient furnace out and replace it with an 80% standard efficient furnace, BAM! you saved 50% on your heating costs for natural gas; a 60% efficient furnace replaced with an 80% still have significant savings off your utility bill.

It makes sense to look at all of your options, the standard efficient and the high efficient furnaces.  Especially when you are faced with a broken furnace and surprised with a large repair bill, maybe even larger than the replacement of the furnace.

There may be additional savings with Energy Upgrade California with improving your overall efficiency.
