“My AC did fine last year when the first hot day hit, but gave out later when it was really hot.” We hear this at least 20-40 times each summer, especially when the heat picks up for several days.

The first hot day of late spring is not a good check of your heat pump or air conditioning’s performance.  You might wonder why?

Well, one day is not really putting the equipment to the test because it is just being tasked to cool a building for a short period of time.  It also appears that humans by nature are optimistic, thinking this heat won’t last long, even though year after year the San Jose area experiences some really hot weather lasting several days.

For some reason, the calls ONLY begin to spike for maintenance and service of the AC/heat pump unit in the second or third hot day in a row.  This is when technicians all over the bay area are slammed and service is several days out. If the customer is not labeled as a loyal maintenance customer and a priority they just might be out of luck for several days.

The expectation for AC is much like it is for traditional heating, when the technology is completely different.  When cooling we are asking the equipment to capture the heat inside and move it outside. The objects also radiate heat and that can make it even more difficult for the AC to catch up.  That is why we suggest to turn the temp up on your AC before leaving for the day but Not OFF.

Some customers are strategic.  They want to know that the AC is ready for summer, they have obvious parts that are about to fail, replaced and make sure that there is sufficient refrigerant for the cooling season.  They also want to take advantage of a reduced repair cost and be a priority if something goes wrong during a heat wave.

Cold Craft is performing air conditioning maintenance/tune ups right now to prevent the rush of calls when it gets really hot and the AC units can’t keep up.  We also want to keep you a priority and comfortable this summer.
